Things to consider before choosing a place
It's easy to find a facility with availability and jump right in because it has all the bells and whistles. But does the community have flow? Do the staff and residents have healthy interactions? Does the dining experience have a positive or negative impact on those involved? Is the sleeping environment conducive to a regenerative night's rest? Do the residents have healthy and positive interactions with each other? There are many intricacies in the day-to-day operations that you will never know about but are very impactful to the overall health and well-being of the residents. Visit the facility as often as you can and speak with different residents. See if you can take them for a walk and have frank conversations with them, outside the earshot of the care staff. Ask them what they feel about their living situation. What are their likes? Dislikes? The facility staff probably won't like this approach, but if they have been operating their facility in an ethical and compliant manner, then they should have nothing to worry about.
