This term, MOAI, originates from Okinawa, Japan where there is one of the highest concentrations of healthy, old people on the planet. But there has been a similar concept of social support for the aging population in many cultures throughout time. In the U.S., however, such networks are few and far between.
I have begun such a network of companions and neighbors in Carmichael. We are young and old, wise and naive, confident and insecure, but most importantly, we are here for each other. Often, all that is needed is a non-judgemental friend to listen to your woes. Other times, you might need some advice from others. I invite you to MOAI because life is better when you surround yourself with the right people. Come by to say 'hi' or join us for a cup of coffee. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know your story.
